Frequently Asked Questions
A question? A doubt? The answer is surely here!
The Fort Boyard Challenge is a sporting competition bringing together the following disciplines: Windsurfing, Wingfoil and Windfoil (windsurfing), stand up paddle, 6-seater Polynesian outrigger canoe (V6/VA'A).
The FBC is not open to kayaks, surfskis, Oc1, etc.
All information relating to sporting aspects, safety, courses, rankings, departure times, etc. is available in the information books on the Registration page.
A French Windsurfing Federation (FFVoile) license is required to participate in windsurfing events. Non-license holders can purchase one upon registration (online, on paper, or at the competition venue) for €34.
For the stand up paddle event, in the absence of a valid FFsurf license, the organization requires challengers to provide a medical certificate of no contraindication to the practice of stand up paddle in competition less than one year old.
For the canoe event, in the absence of a valid FFCK license, the organization requires challengers to provide a medical certificate of no contraindication to practicing Polynesian outrigger canoe in competition less than one year old.
Races are limited to participants aged:
- over 15 years old in stand up paddle
- over 12 years old in windsurfing
- over 16 years old in canoes
However, exceptions may be granted in special cases validated by the race director in question. These exceptions must be the subject of a discharge stipulating that the parents (legal representatives) have read all the conditions of participation and release the organizer from any liability in the event of an accident.
All classification categories for the events are listed in the information book for each discipline. These documents are posted online when registration opens and are available on the Registration page.
In each discipline the general classification is calculated on the sum of the Saturday and Sunday events.
It is possible to participate in only one event/day (Saturday or Sunday) but the competitor will be classified as a non-starter for the event not run (penalty system).
The organization will refund registration fees for the Fort Boyard Challenge only upon presentation of a medical certificate justifying an injury or contraindication to participating in the sport. Each request must be sent by email (contact@fortboyardchallenge.fr) and include the medical certificate and a bank account number allowing for reimbursement.
Furthermore, no registration transfer is possible, so it is not possible to give your registration to an acquaintance or friend.
Registration is scheduled to open in July 2025. Registration will be possible online up until the day of departure, subject to availability.
Registration validation can be done:
- Friday, October 4: from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Fort Boyard Challenge T-shirts are produced as a priority for challengers participating in the event.
The general public can still buy them on site in Fouras (Esplanade de la grande plage) from the Fouras Nautical Club on the dates of the event (sales only on site during the Fort Boyard Challenge weekend while stocks last).
Fouras Beach is guarded from Friday, October 3rd at 9 p.m. to Monday, October 6th at 8 a.m. This guarding does not exempt you from storing your equipment well enough to prevent it from being damaged by any adverse weather conditions.
