Familial atmosphere & competitions
An event by Rochefort Océan
Created in 2006 by the Rochefort Region Urban Community, now known as the Rochefort Océan Urban Community, the Fort Boyard Challenge is a unique sporting event that brings together amateur and professional athletes for one challenge: to circle the legendary Fort Boyard by windsurf or windfoil, stand-up paddle, and Polynesian outrigger canoe (VA’A).
Many activities are offered around the main competition site so that everyone has a pleasant time.
For a weekend, a number of associations in the town of Fouras come together to provide the best possible welcome to participants, culminating in a friendly evening in the form of a Saturday evening aperitif-concert, held together (runners, support staff, organizers) under the tivoli set up for the occasion on the seafront promenade.
An Event at the Heart of a Prestigious French Heritage Site
The "Estuaire de la Charente – Arsenal de Rochefort" Grand Site de France, home to the iconic Fort Boyard, is one of the jewels of the Charente-Maritime region. This remarkable area, shaped by the rhythm of the tides, boasts rich biodiversity and a prestigious maritime heritage.
From the historic Arsenal and its fortifications to the peninsulas of Fouras-les-Bains and Port-des-Barques, and the islands of Aix and Madame, the site is dotted with emblematic landmarks. Here, land and water blend seamlessly, creating an ideal setting for exploration on foot or by bike—offering tranquility, accessibility, and unforgettable scenery.
Previous editions
Since its first edition in 2006, the Fort Boyard Challenge, FBC for short, has found its place in the world of board sports thanks to an original concept that brings together amateurs, experienced practitioners and professionals, in accessible and friendly sporting competitions.
In addition to the initial windsurfing, SUP (Stand Up Paddle) was added in 2010 and the Polynesian outrigger canoes va'a in 2012 to make it the most important multi-nautical water sports event in France.
