The goal is always to go around the famous Fort Boyard starting from the Grande Plage, Fouras for a Long Distance that will make your arms ache!

Since the "stone ship" is not a buoy that can be easily moved, competitors must adapt to any wind direction and navigate the many currents to have the privilege of greeting "Father Fouras".
The event is open to the first 100 registered runners, making it one of the most important competitions on the French Long Distance circuit.

The Fort Boyard Challenge offers a double "downwind" events, one on Saturday AND one on Sunday!

For both races, competitors will board on a ferry boat that will drop them off at the ideal location, depending on the weather conditions. The participants will then have to race to the Grande Plage de Fouras, pushed by the wind, while surfing the swell for a dozen kilometers of pure surfing.

Saturday's downwind will count as a selective long distance round for the French Surfing Federation's French championship.

For Polynesian outrigger canoes (va'a), the race takes place in crews on "V6s".

Since 2017, the Fort Boyard Challenge has been a must-see for canoeists, as it is part of the French Cup calendar for the discipline. Depending on the weather conditions, the canoes can go around the Île d'Aix and Fort Boyard, Île Madame, or go up or down the Charente for races that are always hotly contested, over a cumulative distance of around 50 km. About 40 club crews that represent the best in the discipline at the national level and some from abroad too will join the race this year.
